Nichols Canyon Nature

The existing home had been decimated by a catastrophic mudslide above. Legally, the entirely rebuilt home had to follow the footprint of the existing house while also rigorously and carefully incorporating structural retaining walls and a foundation system to accommodate the unstable soil conditions. The resulting project is integrated more harmoniously with the surrounding mountainside: providing a two story living space with carefully shielded nature views, and many more indoor/ outdoor connections. Various interior elements and materials such as stained glass, entry door, built-ins, tilework, and staircase were designed to reflect and enhance the home’s natural setting. Green products were used throughout including roofing, flooring, and most finishes (countertops, tile, paint, etc.)
